A ten digit alphanumeric number issued by the Income Tax Department, In terms of Income Tax Department PAN is the identity of a person, PAN enables Income Tax Department to link all the transactions of the person which include tax payments, TDS/TCS credits, returns of income/wealth/gift/FBT etc.

Introduction of PAN:

  • PAN was introduced to facilitate linking of various documents like tax payments, tax assessment, tax demand, tax arrears etc.
  • PAN facilitates easy retrieval of individual information, matching of information relating to investment, loans and other business activities of taxpayers collected through various sources.

Necessity of PANCARD: Since first January 2005 it has become mandatory to quote on challans for any payments due to Income Tax Department. PAN is mandatory for the following transactions:

  • Opening Bank Account
  • Cash deposit of Rs 50000/- or more in a bank during any one day
  • Cash payment in connection with travel to any foreign country of an amount exceeding Rs 25000/- at any one time.
  • Selling or purchasing any immovable property valued of Rs 500000/- or more.
  • Selling or purchasing any motor vehicles (does not include two wheelers)
  • Fixed Deposits of above Rs 50000/-
  • A contract of a value exceeding Rs 100000/- for sale or purchase of securities
  • Payments exceeding Rs 25000/- at any one time to hotels & restaurants
  • Payment in cash for purchase of bank drafts an amount Rs 50000/- or more during any one day

Eligibility for PANCARD:

  • All the Indian Citizens residing in India
  • All the Tax Payers
  • Individuals who intend to enter into economic or financial transactions
  • For people over 18 years of age it is advised

Basic Requirements for Applying PANCARD:

  • Two Passport size photographs (size 3.5 cm x 2.5 cm)
  • Photo Identity proof
  • Residence proof/Address Proof
  • Birth Certificate/ Date of Birth Proof
  • Duly filled PANCARD application and prescribed fees

Note:

  • Photo Id Proof & Address proof should be in the name of applicant.
  • Name mentioned in the application form should match with Photo Id Proof.
  • If the applicant is female irrespective of their marital status should write only father’s name in the PAN application form. There is no provision to mention husband’s name in the application/online form.

Mode of Payment: Credit/Debit Card, online transfer, using Cheque/Demand Draft drawn in favour of eMudhra Limited payable at Bangalore by choosing offline payment mode at the payment stage.

Download the filled form(49a) affix your photograph on both top corners of the application form, Sign/Left Thumb impression (preferably in black ink) across this photo on the left hand side of the form and Sign/Left Thumb impression (preferably in black ink) within the box provided in the right hand side of the form. After completion of affixing photo and Sign/Left Thumb on the application form attach photocopies of supporting documents (proof of identity, proof of address, etc) and send it to the following address:

Online Fee Payment:

Online payment is mandatory for booking an appointment to visit a Passport Seva Kendra.

Mode of Payment:

Credit/Debit Card (Master & Visa Cards), online transfer (through State Bank of India and Associate Banks) and State Bank of India Challan.

Note: Online Payment will remain valid for one year from the appointment date. The fees will not be refunded if the applicant fails to submit the application form at Passport Seva Kendra before the first appointment date.

Cancelling/Rescheduling Visit to Passport Seva Kendra

Applicants with confirmed appointments, due to any reason/reasons if you are not able to make the visit on appointment date, you can cancel or reschedule the appointment for 2 times within that year of first appointment date.

Note:

  • Applicant with refused token due to insufficient set of documents can revisit within next three working days from the date of appointment as per the time mentioned in the appointment slip. (Online appointment is not mandatory for these applicants).
  • Tatkaal, Senior citizens, Minors & differently-abled applicants are required to submit their applications online to obtain an ARN, and then visit the nearest Passport Seva Kendra during the prescribed hours without any appointment.
